The Virginia Egg Council is a trade association under contract with the Virginia Egg Board to conduct educational and promotional programs, advertise, conduct research, and market eggs in Virginia, in cooperation with the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.

Funds are collected on all eggs on the sale, use, and consumption in the Commonwealth. The tax on the sale use or consumption of eggs is levied on the last handler before retail or before consumption. The tax is intended for large distribution points and food service operations.
